Hello! My name is Wendy Smith and I am one of the Science teachers here at West Stanly High School. I have been teaching at WSHS since the fall of 2012. Before coming to WSHS I taught for 3.5 years in both middle school and high school. I have a Bachelors of Science in Animal Science and a  Bachelors of Science Education from NC State University.  I am certified to teach all Secondary Science courses. I currently teach Biology I  and Physical Science at WSHS and have also taught Anatomy & Physiology at WSHS. I have also previously taught 8th grade math, 8th grade science, earth science, and marine science.

Biology I is a one semester course with no prerequisites. The curriculum includes inquiry into the following areas: the structure and function of living organisms, the interdependence of living organisms within their environments, how traits are determined by the structure and function of DNA, and how Biological molecules are essential to the survival of living things. This course is a graduation requirement for all students. 
Physical Science is a one semester course with no prerequisites. The curriculum includes both chemistry and physics concepts. Chemistry is covered in the first quarter of the course and physics is covered in the second quarter of the course.
