Junior Planning Information

  • Review your academic plan with your counselor.
  • Remember to do practice tests for the ACT and SAT - either through CFNC, Collegeboard, or ACT
  • Take the PSAT if you want to try and qualify for the National Merit Scholarship program.
  • Check admissions requirements of colleges that interest you.  (Minimum GPA, test scores, etc.)
  • Keep your CFNC plan of study, and your WSHS four year plan, updated.
  • Attend college fairs when offered and any financial aid workshops as well.
  • Start visiting colleges that you are interested in.
  • Start researching scholarships, grants and loans to attend college.  Use CFNC, the scholarship databases on our counseling pages, and the college scholarship/financial aid websites to start your research.
  • Talk with coaches about college sports and athletic eligibility.
  • You will take the ACT for free in the spring semester - take this test seriously!  You can use this score for college entrance exam requirements and scholarship opportunities!
  • If you are planning to attend a four year college, then also plan to take the SAT in May of your Junior year to get a score from them as well.
  • Narrow down your list of colleges that you are interested in applying to your senior year.
  • Find a summer job, or do an internship with Ms. Brown in a career field that interests you.
  • Get a head start on finding money for college!  Go to fafsa.ed.gov for a Federal Student Aid Identification (FSA ID) for both you and a parent or guardian.  You'll need them to file your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) early in your senior year.  Save these IDs in a secure place and do not share them with anyone else.
