October is National Manufacturing Month! Stanly County Career and Technical Education (CTE) joined Stanly Community College, Stanley Engineered Fastening, Stanly Community College, NC Works and Nextgen in promoting manufacturing and inspiring our next generation of innovators.
Stanly Community College (SCC) hosted students in the morning to tour their advanced manufacturing facility where they can obtain certificates and degrees in HVAC, welding, collision and body repair, heavy equipment operation, PLC (programmable logic controllers), computer integrated machining. At the Whitley Technology Center they learned about program offerings for Information Technology, Cyber Security, Network Administration, Advertising and Graphic Design, Simulation and Game Development, and Biomedical Equipment Technology.
Professors and administrators at SCC emphasized to students the urgent need to fill jobs and that SCC can help them to become employment ready either upon high school graduation or by furthering their post secondary education. Students learned that many of the occupations SCC can prepare them for can start at $20 or more per hour. Professors shared many stories of successful graduates earning upwards of $100,000 per year just months after graduating from some of their programs. Surprising to many students was to learn about SCC’s Career and College Promise program where they can take many of these colleges courses for free while in high school!
